Public Kitchen
Jean Georges’s latest new restaurant is located in Ian Schrager’s Public Hotel in the Lower East Side.
According to Ian the simple but revolutionary idea of Public Hotel is “luxury for all”. Style, service, value and a unique experience are the pillars of that luxury.
And that luxury extends to Public Kitchen as well which is by far one of the best brunches I have had in 2017.
Let me explain – the true test of a good brunch is not only about enjoying food with friends. It is about the experience when you are on your own.
On entering the Public Hotel, you are greeted by illuminated escalators, which mesmerized me to take them to the level above and get a bit lost. After asking one of the hotel staff members, I was told that brunch is served at Public Kitchen at the lobby level (behind the escalators).
We make our way to the restaurant which is simple and beautiful. Getting a table by the garden, I notice the beautiful wood burning pizza oven in the open kitchen. The restaurant staff is genuinely friendly and well informed about the menu.
We order the Spicy Tuna Tartare, Smoked Salmon on Potato Latkes, Corn and Thai Basil pot stickers and the Warm Shrimp cocktail with Peach-horseradish to start with.
The next course is sharing the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Cherry Pepper Mayo.
For dessert, we decide to indulge in the Buttermilk Pancakes with Summer Berries.
The photography does no justice to how beautiful the food presentation is. True to what Jean-Georges wanted to do, this is a combination of “New Yorker food” and “Word Food”. Gorgeous, delicious and fresh food. The service at Public Kitchen is equally amazing!
Overall – you will not be able to escape going to Public Kitchen. This restaurant will indisputably be the “hot spot” for brunch in New York for the coming years.
