Satisficing vs Optimising
“Satisfice” is what you get by combining “satisfy” and “suffice.” Both literally and figuratively.
Herbert Simon, the Nobel prize–winning social scientist coined the term to describes a person’s tendency to select the first available solution that meets a given need rather than an optimal solution.
Satisfice is something we do in our everyday lives and a disservice to our one great beautiful life. What would happen if we chose the optimal solution? The best possible solution? Would that take a great deal of patience?
The simple answer is to be self-aware when you are “Satisficing” VS “Optimising” the solution to any decision. The easy way out is the easy way out in every situation - it is in our most challenging times when we exert 100% that we arrive at that “optimal” solution.
Try it!
