Spring in Istanbul
I have travelled to Istanbul more time than anyone else I know. Working for the five years Turkish PM’s investment agency meant I was in Turkey every few months. Work meetings and conferences occupied most of my time while I visited Istanbul.
Though I have seen most of the city, there has always been something new and wonderful waiting to be discovered.
My sister in law found an image of Ihlamur Palace and said we must visit during our family holiday. Particularly since the magnolia would be in full bloom in March. Since it was close to one of my favourite areas (Nisantasi), we decided to go early morning before the crowds started coming and then go on to Nisantasi or Bebek for breakfast.
The Palace and grounds took my breath away. Ihlamur Palace is a former imperial Ottoman summer pavilion and was constructed during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid I. The images do no justice to the cool breeze and smell of the magnolia flowers in full bloom. The sounds of peacocks and a cup of tea in hand.. this experience was HEAVENLY.
